What do you do when you get a sudden irresistible craving for something chocolate or something sweet? How about a 3 Minute Mug Brownie?? Sometimes food needs to be just that easy! Perfect for anyone to make anytime!
A decadent 3 Minute Mug Brownie hits all the notes of warm chocolatey goodness!
It’s sweet, rich and just enough to hit the “spot”! All you need are 5 minutes and just like that you enjoying your 3 Minute Mug Brownie! The best part is that you can mix, cook and eat all in the same mug! That’s a big win in my world!
Ingredients To Make A Mug Brownie
- 9 TBS of Betty Crocker Fudge Brownie Mix (this is what I use)
- One beaten egg
- 1 TBS grapeseed, olive or vegetable oil
Optional Add-Ins or Garnishes for Microwave Mug Brownies
- Coconut flakes
- Chocolate Shavings, Chocolate Syrup, Chocolate Chips
- Caramel
- Whipped Cream
- Chopped nuts
The box mix I always when making these Mug Brownies is Betty Crocker Fudge Brownie Mix. Results may vary if another brand or type of mix is used. For other Mug Cakes I use flour, baking powder and additional ingredients. This is just a shortcut for a brownie "something" that I often crave.
Add your ingredients, mix, and then microwave for 90 uninterrupted seconds, after that all you need to do is grab a spoon and dig in. Now you may have come across images of a Mug Cake that is to the top of a mug.
A Mug Cake may be good…but let me tell you, a Mug Brownie is better! No icing necessary, just warm, fudgy (or cakey…you decide) goodness! I tested and tested out this recipe, I made it with egg and without, with vegetable oil, grapeseed oil and coconut oil. I made an Oreo cream cheese topping for it, I added chocolate chips and coconut chips. In the end, a straight up 3 Minute Mug Brownies the way to go, no garnish necessary, I did, however, enjoy a sprinkling of shaved coconut on top for a little crunch and my kids added caramel. If you are a chocoholic like my husband, mother, and sister, go ahead and drizzle a lil’ hot fudge over-top.

Is it right to call “9” TBS Fudge Brownie mix for one mug?
Colleen says
Yes, its just over 1/2 cup. I did it with and without an egg. Without an egg, it doesn't rise much. SO you end up with 1/3 of your mug or so. With egg it is more cake-like...without, more dense (that's how I like it).

I got a standard coffee mug. It went over and almost spilled over. Maybe adding water would have been a good idea l, but it wasn’t in this recipe. The texture is odd and it lacks flavor. It’s edible if you have ice cream.

Hi Jessica, I think it totally varies based on which brand brownie mix you use. Your altitude, egg size, etc. This is definitely a temperamental recipe. I don't think I worked on any recipe as hard as I did this one to get it right (in my own kitchen)...ever!

Hack; add about a tablespoon of water before microwaving, and one or two tablespoons of nutella right after pulling it out. Soooo good 🤗

Thanks for the tip of adding the water came out perfect

It's 12:30 where I'm add an I've been craving brownies. This was the easiest an one of the best recipes i have found. I used Hershey's triple chocolate brownie mix an came out good.

Can you cook the whole box of brownie mix in a microwave dish? If so how long would I cook it? Please get back to me right away. My family wants me to make it and my oven broke down
Colleen says
I don't think that will work OR if it does work, it will take a lot o trail and error to get it right. It took me many attempts to get it right in the mug.

I saw lots of other recipes with just water added, but this seemed more substantial, so I tried it. It was awesome! I'm so glad I did! I followed the recipe exactly plus added walnuts to the batter- and boy was it good! The resulting cakey brownie was tall, fluffy, not rubbery, and not dry or burned in the middle. It was WAY better than the supermarket mug cake mix packets that I bought once (and actually THREW away because they were gross!!). Thanks for figuring this out so that I didn't have to!!!!

Yay Leah! So great to hear!

I just made this recipe. It was delicious. I copied it down wrong. Didnt put egg in. Water instead. It was light and fluffy. Delicious. Will make it with the egg next time. My mix was an off brand. Didnt seem to make a difference. Will let you know difference between my mistaken recipe and the real one.
