If you like a Monte Cristo Sandwich, you'll love this Waffle Sandwich! Easier to make vs the traditional with a delicious crunch. Like the Disneyland Monte Cristo.

Ingredients

  • 4 waffles
  • 4 slices Swiss or Gruyere cheese more or less
  • 1 TBS Dijon mustard or honey mustard or do a combo of mayo and mustard
  • 4 slices leftover turkey or deli turkey more or less
  • 4 slices leftover ham or deli ham more or less, I like black forest or tavern ham for this
  • 2 TBS strawberry jam or you favorite berry jam
  • dusting powdered sugar

Notes

  • Warm up your jam for 20-30 seconds or just until warm.
  • Store-bought waffles hold up better than homemade waffles in my opinion. If you are making these ahead of time for a picnic, event etc., that would be my choice.
  • If packing, cut them in half and wrap tightly after waffle has cooled completely. Pack the jelly to add when ready to enjoy. You can always pack powdered sugar as well to refresh with a little sprinkle.
  • If using frozen waffles, toasting them in a toaster oven is great. That way you can add cheese overtop shortly before pulling them out to assemble sandwiches.
