    Easy Indoor/Outdoor Glass Jar Garden

This is a sponsored post on behalf of Miracle-Gro and Bonnie Plants. However, the opinions and Easy Indoor/Outdoor Glass Jar Garden idea are my own.

How often do you use (or want to use) fresh herbs and veggies when you cook? Fresh herbs can really make a dish, am I right??  I am excited to show you an easy way for anyone, no matter how much space you may or may not have, to plant an Easy Indoor/Outdoor Glass Jar Garden.

How to create an easy indoor or outdoor glass jar garden! Big or small space, this works!!

Do you have a garden? If you do, is it a raised-bed garden, a traditional garden, or is it a container garden? It large or is it small? I have created both traditional and container gardens in my time and have had success with each. Both methods have had their challenges, however.

The most robust garden I ever cultivated was literally decimated in one night. I thought someone (for whatever reason) had weed-whacked it! I was stunned! As I was frantically telling my husband (and dragging him by the arm to see it) about the crazy weed-whacking maniac on the loose...it hit me! "Wait...if someone weed-whacked my garden...WHERE were all of the "whacked off" parts??" Ha, lightbulb!! It was the deer, and boy did they have a feast!

When I have scattered containers with herbs and vegetables around the patio and pool area, groundhogs and deer have outsmarted me! Once I stood in utter fascination as I watched a groundhog devour a full grown jalapeno plant (and all of its jalapenos) in a minute!! That particular pot was near the deep end of the pool and that fat little groundhog ate it so fast...all I could do was stand there mesmerized and watch him/her enjoy itself and wonder if he/she felt the heat of the peppers, lol!! Obviously not as it just kept on chowing down until nothing but a wee bare stick of stalk remained!

So these days I keep what I plant very close to the house and that’s what works for me.

One of my favorite ways to garden is an Easy Indoor/Outdoor Glass Jar Garden! It's pretty, I can move it inside or outside with ease, and it's SO easy to get started with the help of Bonnie Plants and Miracle-Gro products from Walmart.

Easy Indoor Outdoor Glass Jar Garden

Miracle-Gro is a brand that I trust. Using their products has helped me grow healthy, robust plants! (seriously, twice as big as unfed plants - they've tested it and I see the results as well). Check out their website for all kinds of garden how-to’s and tips!

And of course Walmart is so convenient (so many locations), the prices are great and you can shop easily online or in-store! Seriously, both Bonnie Plants and Miracle-Gro make it so easy to have a successful large or small garden! Together, they are a recipe for success (and shopping Walmart makes it easy to get what you need at a great price)

When you order your gardening items online via Walmart.com, and select "Store Pick Up", you can order everything that you need online, and someone will gather and load all of those items for you - at no additional cost!

    How great is THAT??

My daughter and I had so much fun setting up our Easy Indoor/Outdoor Glass Jar Garden for this year! Once we had what we needed (jars, rocks, Bonnie Plants and Miracle-Gro Potting Mix) assembling our Easy Indoor/Outdoor Glass Jar Garden happened in under 30 minutes.

Easy Indoor Outdoor Glass Jar Garden

An Easy Indoor/Outdoor Glass Jar Garden is perfect for kids to take on as a craft themselves and then later they can use what they grow when they cook or assist in the kitchen. I am a huge advocate of kids getting into the kitchen early and often!

When kids cook or at least help in the kitchen (at any age) they at least taste what they create PLUS you teach them an important life-skill. It also gives them an easy way to see a project through, helps contribute to the family's needs, provides math lessons, responsibility, and so much more. The pride and accomplishment they feel when the project of the garden is done, it begins to produce and they actually make something from it...is priceless!

After assembly, decide if you want to have your glass jar garden indoors or outdoors (make sure temps are past dipping to near-freezing and below at night before putting them outside). What’s so great about an Easy Indoor/Outdoor Glass Jar Garden is that it's totally mobile. Plop your jars on an old baking sheet and quickly move them in or out. Then add whatever garden décor you wish. In no time you will be enjoying fresh herbs and veggies!

In a couple weeks, stop back and see what recipes I share using what I planted in my Easy Indoor/Outdoor Glass Jar Garden! First up a Chimichurri dish! Mmmm-mmmm-mm!

It's easy to set up your Easy Indoor/Outdoor Glass Jar Garden, Here is what you need:

    • 4-8 glass jars in various sizes to accommodate the herbs and small plants you choose to grow. A mix of various jar sizes looks the best in my opinion. Purchase larger mason jars, vintage jars, use old pickle jars or whatever you have on-hand
    • Small rocks
    • Miracle-Gro Potting Mix
    • Bonnie Plants (whatever herbs or small plants you want – they have a lot of variety)
    • And, if you choose, decorative garden statues to put your own spin on it 🙂

    Assembly

    • You want at least a 1-inch of stones at the bottom of each jar. The bigger the jar and plant, the higher the stones.
    • After you fill the jars with the stone base, scoop in some of the potting soil, and then carefully add your plant.
    • Add more soil, press down and there you have it. Repeat with each jar.
    • Be sure to keep jars in an area that receives sunlight each day and to keep your soil moist without overwatering.

Tips: If you decide to keep your glass jar garden outside, pay attention to heavy rainfalls. You may want to cover your jars (I have used an umbrella) or temporarily move your jars so they don't get a sudden flood from rainfall. Trim your herbs to keep them healthy (if you are not using them up quickly enough) or you can always dry some for later use.

If you create a Glass Jar Garden, I would love to see it! Tag me on Instagram or Facebook with a picture!

Love this idea of a glass jar garden. My husband is a lot more into gardening than me. This idea has really inspired me to try more gardening. Great for having a variety of herbs.

How fun! I thought that I couldn't grow anything because I've been killing houseplants for years. But lately, I've been able to keep them alive so I'm going to have to try your little garden tips since you make it look so easy!

I love the idea of having fresh herbs on hand. They really do make such a difference. Also, you had a great suggestion to involve kids in the process of planting and caring for plants.
