    Bloody Mary Shrimp

    Many years ago my sister-in-law Erin made this amazing (and easy) Bloody Mary Shrimp recipe. I had never tasted anything quite like it and was immediately smitten! I literally stood by the bowl of shrimp for 30 minutes lol!!

    Over the years, I have taken this Bloody Mary Shrimp appetizer to family gatherings, Super Bowl parties and a big food blogger meet up. I have made it for parties and just because. The shrimp pieces are infused with the flavors of a Bloody Mary and pieces of celery are in the mixture as well for some crunch.

    If you love a good Bloody Mary Recipe, you will love this shrimp appetizer!

    You can serve this in a big bowl with endive spears, romaine spears or butter lettuce alongside on a platter as an edible bowl. I also often serve this ice sold in small shooter cups with small spoons which seams to be the most efficient way when making a large batch.

    Tips

    • Bloody Mary Shrimp is best served ice cold. I'll even pop it in the freezer for 30-60 minutes before serving if its a hot day. It is SO refreshing!!
    • Whenever you want to chill something quickly, always place it at the bottom of your fridge/freezer as cold "falls". The bottom is the coldest place.
    • You are chopping the shrimp into small bite sized pieces for this, however I have found that using large shrimp, either 21-25 or 16-20 is best.
    • Be sure your shrimp is blotted dry, you don't want to dilute the delicious sauce with excess water from the shrimp.
    • Make you marinade and whisk together well. You can make it a day ahead and combine it an hour before serving.
    • This also holds up well after combined and can easily be enjoyed the following day.'
    • The best horseradish, in my opinion, is Kelchner's. Always stir up/stir your horseradish before using no matter what you are using it for.
    • The better the vodka, the better the overall flavor of this shrimp appetizer. Same goes for all of the ingredients for this recipe.
    • Fresh lemon juice is a must.
    • Serve this ice cold.

    • Cooked Shrimp
    • Celery
    • Scallions
    • Ketchup
    • Vodka
    • Fresh lemon
    • Horseradish
    • Worcestershire
    • Tabasco

    Variations

    • Serve in small shooter or cocktail cups with small spoons, on Chinese style spoons or on endive spears.
    • Add in a splash or more of pickle juice, pepperoncini juice or whatever else you enjoy in your Bloody Mary cocktail.

    If you enjoy a classic Bloody Mary, you will love this Bloody Mary Shrimp Appetizer! All the flavors of a Bloody Mary in an easy, delicious, different and refreshing appetizer!

    Ingredients
      

    • 2 pounds of large cooked shrimp cut into chunks
    • 3 celery ribs diced about 1 ¼ cups
    • 1 cup of scallions thinly sliced

    Sauce

    • ½ cup ketchup
    • ¼ cup ice cold vodka
    • ¼ cup lemon juice
    • 2-3 TBS horseradish to your taste (I only use Kelchner's - the best)
    • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
    • 5-6 dashes Tabasco

    Instructions
     

    • Combine shrimp pieces (make sure they are blotted dry), celery and scallions in a medium bowl. Set aside.
    • In a small bowl combine all sauce ingredients and whisk until well incorporated.
    • Pour over shrimp mixture. Mix well.
    • Let it sit for at least an hour and up to overnight.
    • Serve in small shooter cups with small spoons, on Chinese style spoons or on endive spears. (Did you know...Endive is a great source of Folate, fiber and vitamins A and K...eat up!)
    • Tip for endives: Slowly separate endives, slice a bit off of the core as you break each stalk off. The endive spears will get smaller and smaller. Place them on a serving platter. When ready to serve fill each with a bit of the mixture.
    • Enjoy!

    Optional: Add in a splash of pickle juice or pepperoncini juice, YUM!
