Wegmans Red, White and Blue Bread

I have shared previously about my ongoing love affair with Wegmans...yes, yes...I know many others feel the same...that is ok...I can share!

I have been so busy lately that it's been awhile since my last trip to the store...about 6 weeks (yikes). I waited patiently for my 6 year old daughter to wake up (you KNOW she may like Wegmans more than me if THAT is possible, and I can never let her know I made a trip without her...lol. Ask her where she wants to go for lunch...any choice at all...she always says Wegmans - since she was 4)

Yesterday while strolling down the bakery area a small sign caught my eye, it read; Red White and Blue Bread. I stopped and looked at the bread loaves wondering why is it called that? I didn't notice the slices off to the side as my mind was whirling thinking about the name of the bread, and 2 seconds later a woman gently said, would you like to try a piece...it was then I saw the slices behind the glass. I quickly said, oh yes, please.

The clouds parted and the sun appeared once the first bite danced on my tongue...I tasted cranberry, I tasted blueberry, I tasted coarse sugar and a delicious bread at the heart of it all...It was so stinking good!

I just stood there a bit stunned for a minute and said "OK, hand it over, THAT is ridiculous!! I LOVE it!!" I thought about that bread the rest of my shopping trip, I even asked the girl at the register if she had tried it yet? She hadn't I told her as soon as she was done for the day to run right over to the bakery and do so!!

It made me wonder why Wegmans doesn't have tasting times for their employees for new and seasonal items...matter of fact...Danny Wegman if you are reading this (right, lol) your folks should have on their name tags a spot to put something like...My favorite item at Wegmans is _____. Then, for those of us who may not yet have stumbled over a delight, we would take notice and possible ask about it or run back and get one.

I just had to share the bread with you all and you now need to hop in your car, head to a Wegmans and enjoy it! I hear it is seasonal, so drive fast!!

For those of you who don't have a Wegmans anywhere near you yet, so sorry to tantalize you...but hey...now you have an idea for an awesome bread to bake!!

    Enjoy!!

Just be careful if you put it in the toaster. The coarse sugar is REALLY hot when you take it out! Good, but HOT!

Thanks for stopping by my blog!

I can't believe you had that Sesame Street Cookbook - What a coincidence! I've been browsing your posts, and I must say that I simply LOVE the cookbook you wrote. What a fantastic idea for a kids cookbook! Hopefully there's no recipes for peanut butter soup in there...

I look forward to meeting you on Saturday!

Oh, and how cool is it that Wegman's actually read your blog post?

Oh my gosh, this looks so good! Now I have even MORE grocery store envy. Where I'm from in Texas, we have HEB. And HEB is phenomenal, offering stuff like this as well as things like freshly handmade tortillas. Now I'm going to go and see just how far away the closest Wegmans is, because this is getting ridiculous.

Well, I actually used to by pass our local grocery store (Starts with a "T"ops (oops, did I say that?)) and drive 24 miles each way to go to Wegmans. I just got home and what did I have in my bag but Red white and Blue bread. It is totally wonderful. Now I am a bread baker from way back, but I do occassionally pick up a loaf of some kind of Wegmans if I don't have time to bake my own. This breaad is just the best! Some one suggeste4d French toast with it. Well, thanks for the idea. If the loaf lasts for more than an hour I will try that. LOL!

My aunt introduced me to RW&B bread a few weeks ago and it was FANTASTIC! I am sad, however, that I don't have a Wegman's near me. The next time I'm near one, I am going to have to stock up though!

I love the red, white and blue bread! What can I pair it with? In a sandwich, I 'm thinking ham or poultry? What else? Today I used a piece to pick up the last tracings of yogurt!
