  • Often mistaken for shrimp, langostino are small crustaceans, resembling a small lobster, neither belonging to the same family as shrimp or lobster. Langistino are actually part of the crab family.

Tips

  • Unless you caught these small crustaceans yourself, or live in an area where they are caught fresh, you'll need to defrost them. The langostino will hold some water from being frozen. So, for best results, thaw in a colander/strainer over a bowl or pot and the before using the langostino, press with paper towels to extract extra liquid.
  • If any large pieces are observed, chop them in half or thirds.
  • When cooking with langostino, remember they have already been cooked. So if making soup, stew, pasta dishes etc. Add them towards the end of the cooking process or make it a quick cook.
  • Just like with any seafood dish, they are best enjoyed the day you make them.

What kind of rolls should I use?

  • Regular hot dog rolls, potato hot dog rolls (our fav), split buns. It all works.
  • The key is to butter your buns and then put them on a griddle to crisp a bit. Or you can lightly toast them or grill them. Delish!
