Why you'll love this waffle sandwich
- No fussing with an egg batter for the traditional monte cristo bread used (and frying). You get the iconic flavor of a Monte Cristo Sandwich with that beautiful crunch and flavor from the waffle.
- Enjoy it with powdered sugar and jelly or just powdered sugar.
- Wrap it up and bring it on a picnic.
- It's a little different, this is a great brunch sandwich, bridal shower sandwich or baby shower recipe.
Ingredients
- Waffles
- Ham
- Turkey
- Swiss Cheese
- Powdered Sugar
- Strawberry Jelly
- Optional Dijon Mustard
Variations
- Use quality frozen waffles or make homemade waffles. Wither way it works. Shown in the images are Birch Benders Waffles, which I enjoy.
- Make it how you want to eat it. If you want Dijon mustard, honey mustard, a mustard mayo mix, jelly etc. You do you.
- I like Swiss cheese for this sandwich, however feel free to swap for Gouda, cheddar or a mix.
- Change up the flavor of jelly, or try hot honey. Mmmm!
Tips
- Store-bought waffles hold up better than homemade waffles in my opinion. If you are making these ahead of time for a picnic, event etc., that would be my choice.
- If packing, cut them in half and wrap tightly after waffle has cooled completely. Pack the jelly to add when ready to enjoy. You can always pack powdered sugar as well to refresh with a little sprinkle.
- Warm up your jam for 20-30 seconds or just until warm.
- If using frozen waffles, toasting them in a toaster oven is great. That way you can add cheese overtop shortly before pulling them out to assemble sandwiches.
Enjoy! XO Colleen
