If you adore sweet potato recipes, especially something like a sweet potato casserole or candied yams. Prepare to have your mind blown with this lightened up Hot Honey Roasted Sweet Potatoes Recipe!! If you like a hot honey recipe this is for you!

Hot Honey Roasted Sweet Potatoes. Roasted Sweet Potato Wedges, big flavor!

The flavor of these Honey Roasted Sweet Potato Wedges are outstanding! With just a handful of ingredients and way less effort and calories vs traditional sweet potato casseroles and candied sweet potatoes or candied yams!! This may be one of the best holiday side dish recipes or any day of the year recipes you make!

I make my husband's grandmothers stovetop candied sweet potatoes every Thanksgiving and Christmas. They are delicious and boy does he look forward to them! However, they take hands on time and effort to make and loaded (and I mean loaded) with butter and sugar.

When I first made these Hot Honey Sweet Potatoes after seeing them on the Food Lion website, my husband LOVED them! So much flavor with so little effort. A winner! I changed the recipe to our tastes and began making it often.

Why You'll Love This Sweet Potato Recipe

    • First of all is its easy to make in my opinion. Easier vs traditional stovetop candied sweet potatoes, which require attention often.
    • Second, its lighter since less sugar and or syrup and butter are used.
    • The flavor wit roasted sweet potatoes is just better and the spiced hot honey sauce makes it more interesting in my opinion.
    • You can completely control the heat level as well as the sweet to heat ratio.

    Ingredients

    • Sweet Potatoes
    • Olive or avocado Oil
    • Garlic Powder
    • S&P
    • Butter
    • Honey
    • Hot Sauce
    • Parsley, Thyme or Chives
    • My Spiced Sugar recipe (optional but so good!)
Hot Honey Roasted Sweet Potatoes. Amazing flavor, easy holiday side dish recipe.

Can you eat the skin on a sweet potato?

    • YES!! And you should. The skin of sweet potatoes and regular potato's hold valuable fiber and nutrients. Peeling the skin takes away some of the fiber as well as vitamins and minerals.
    • Sweet potato skins are safe to eat. They are rich in fiber, nutrients, and antioxidants, including A, C & E as well as potassium.
    • If you want the most nutrition out of your sweet potato, keep the peel on.
    • Sweet potato skin is thin, you won't even notice it after it cooks.
    • Plus you save time and mess by not peeling.

    Variations

    • Control the sweet to spicy ratio easily by how much hot sauce you add. If you want a lot of sauce, double the sauce ingredients.
    • Add chopped pecans or even tastier some of my spiced Candied Pecans which you can have made in advance (if you don't eat them all. Seriously the best (and egg free).
    • Use either sweet potatoes or yams. Similar but different.
Hot Honey Roasted Sweet Potatoes are so easy to make! Less butter & sugars vs traditional candied sweet potatoes & casseroles. Big flavor!

    Storage

Store any leftover roasted sweet potatoes in a container in the refrigerator. Reheat and enjoy within a week.

I hope you love this sweet potato recipe as much as my family does! XO- Colleen

    Ingredients

    • 3 large sweet potatoes lightly scrubbed and dried, skin on, cut into wedges
    • ¼ cup avocado or olive oil
    • 2 TBS garlic powder
    • S & P
    • 2 TBS butter
    • 1 cup honey
    • 2 TBS hot sauce
    • 1 TBS chopped fresh parsley or snipped chives for garnish optional
    • 1 teaspoon spiced sugar (see notes)

    Instructions

    • Preheat the oven to 400°F.
    • Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
    • Place the sweet potato wedges in a large bowl with the oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and toss to coat.
    • Place the sweet potato wedges to the prepared baking sheet. Bake, flipping halfway through, for 35-40 minutes, or until the wedges are golden-brown and crispy.
    • Mix the honey and hot sauce in a ramekin or small bowl, taste and adjust to your preference.

    Notes

Sprinkling a teaspoon or so of my Spiced Sugar (click here) overtop before roasting gives this a lovely spiced flavor and helps it caramelize in spots. You could also just sprinkle some cinnamon sugar overtop.
Nutritional calculation does not include S&P. It DOES include the suggestion of the spiced sugar.
